Maria is a 34-year-old single mother of three children—ages 8, 11, and 14. She lives in a small rural village where employment opportunities are scarce. After her husband abandoned the family three years ago, Maria struggled to put food on the table. She worked as a casual farm laborer, earning less than $2 per day, barely enough to feed her children, let alone pay for their school fees.
The Turning Point:
In January 2025, Maria was enrolled in our Women's Vocational Training Program. She chose to specialize in tailoring and fashion design—a skill she had always admired but never had the opportunity to learn.
Progress:
Completed the 6-month training program with distinction
Received a starter toolkit including a sewing machine, fabrics, and accessories
Registered her own small tailoring business: "Maria's Designs"
Currently serving 15 regular customers in her village
Earning an average of $150 per month—enough to feed her family, pay school fees, and save for the future
Her Words:
"I used to feel hopeless. Now I have a skill that no one can take away from me. I'm teaching my oldest daughter to sew. We are building a future together."
Support Needed:
Maria is now seeking support to expand her business with a second sewing machine and additional fabrics. She dreams of training other women in her village.
